I can still remember the moment I thought “I want to do this forever.” I was 16 and performing Dvorak’s symphony No. 8 with the NY All-State symphony orchestra. The connection I felt with my peers on stage was electrifying. I couldn’t believe that we could make a sound like that! From that moment on, I was hooked. So, I majored in violin performance for both my undergraduate and graduate degrees. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of playing in symphony orchestras throughout North America and Europe under the batons of Sir Simon Rattle, Riccardo Chailly, Peter Oundjian, Joanna Faletta, Marin Alsop, Paul Haas, and Rossen Milanov, along with many others.

In addition to my love of orchestral playing, I have a keen interest in contemporary classical music (think 1975 - today). I find the process of bringing new works to life, in collaboration with both emerging and well established composers, extraordinarily freeing, fulfilling, and just plain old fun. As a Bang on a Can Fellow and a DACAMERA Young Artist I held performance residencies at Mass MOCA and the Rothko Chapel, and have premiered dozens of new works by living composers including Christopher Theofanidis, David Lang, Annie Gosfield, Matthias Pintscher, and the late Kaija Saariaho, among many others. I have performed with members of leading contemporary ensembles such as 8th Blackbird, the Bang on a Can All-stars, the Philip Glass Ensemble, and the Silk Road Ensemble.

Despite having spent the majority of my life playing the modern violin, these days I most often perform music from the Baroque era (think 1600-1750 and composers like Bach and Vivaldi). Throughout my childhood and undergraduate studies I learned baroque music through the lens of a modern violinist, but never explored Historically Informed Performance Practice (or HIPP) on an actual baroque violin and bow until I started playing with Mercury Baroque and Ars Lyrica; two baroque ensembles specializing in HIPP in Houston, TX. Once I began my doctoral studies at Stony Brook University I was able to take a deep dive into the history and stylistic elements of HIPP thanks to my mentors, Harpsichordist Arthur Hass and Baroque Violinist Beth Wenstrom. Since then I’ve cultivated a performance career that is centered around “early music.” I have played with ensembles such as Montréal’s L’Harmonie Des Saisons, Florida’s Seraphic Fire, New York’s Teatro Nuovo and Kollective366, and am a core member of the Smithsonian Academy Orchestra; a classical-period orchestra under the direction of Kenneth Slowik in Washington D.C.
